Introduction to Care & Volunteering

Helping Skills

This course aims to introduce learners to the use of helping skills in everyday life and work. It is designed for anyone who uses, or would like to use, helping skills at work or in a personal capacity. This may include learners who wish to progress towards further qualifications, or learners who wish to study this programme in order to complement other programmes (e.g. health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, voluntary and community work).

Managing Money

This course aims to identify the needs of learners in their ability to manage money from basic counting change in shops to progress to:

  • Develop the learner’s awareness of financial products and services such as savings accounts and loans 

  • Increase the learner’s knowledge of saving and borrowing money. 

  • Make informed decisions when choosing financial products and services 

  • Understand the risks to personal finances 

  • Compare goods, products and services.

Nutrition & Health

This course is designed for learners looking to improve their understanding of nutrition and health. The course aims to: 

  • Develop learner’s understanding of the importance of eating healthily and maintaining hydration 

  • Develop learners' understanding of food choices and how to make healthy choices 

  • Help learners plan a healthy diet for self and others 

  • Increase understanding of eating disorders, the connections between food and feelings and ways to seek help and support.
